Michael
Wing- 2005 Graduate
When
I began with the Mountain Fifes and Drums, I was in 9th grade
and had a background of playing in the school orchestra and band
since 4th grade. I'd had frustrations with the school band program
and I wanted to play music so I joined the corps with my sisters.
The corps
was a way for me to have fun and grow musically in a unique setting.
I had never heard of a fife and chose it over the drum because
of my background with the oboe and bass clarinet. The program
impacted me positively by teaching me how to learn in order to
teach music to others. Leadership qualities were developed in
me by the example of the leaders. Mr. Garland put me in a leadership
position and it was helpful in developing my personality.
My goal
is to become a music therapist. I am currently attending Crafton
Community College toward an Associate of Arts Degree in Music
to transfer to a university where I can finish my Bachelor of
Arts in Music Therapy. Mr. Garland and Mrs. Olsen inspired me
toward this goal through their tireless patience and gift of time.
I saw the qualities in them that I aspired to have.
The experiences
I had in the corps will continue to have a positive impact throughout
my life much like a pebble thrown into a lake.
Best Wishes,
Michael
